Old Research Repository

by Hawke Robinson published Aug 16, 2017 04:05 PM, last modified Jul 10, 2022 05:27 PM
This is RPG Research's older research repository. We are currently moving more than 3,000 content items (1 multi-page essay equals 1 content item) from this old site to our new repository at www.rpgresearch.com/research . The new repository is better organized and formatted, but it takes months for our volunteers to move all this content from the old site to the new site, so we are keeping the old repository available until the move is complete. All new research is being added to the new repository, no new research is being added to this old repository as of 2018.

About the RPG Research Project, for researchers.

If you come from a research background, and want more information about the RPG Research Project from that perspective, this page helps to provide such information in the language appropriate to this background. If you are a layperson such as a role-playing gamer, a parent/guardian of a gamer,, an educator, or healthcare professional, you may want to try the relevant pages that explain this site and projects more in your terminology.

The RPG Research Project

  • Is a central repository of existing research information on the effects of all forms of role-playing games: tabletop (RPG), live-action (LARP), computer-based (CRPG), and solo adventure books/modules (SABM).
  • Is a long-term series of projects to add to the body of existing research, including
  • Contains many sub-projects contained in the overall RPG Project, from demographics gathering and case studies, to small shorter term research projects, building towards a larger body of data planned over the years of research efforts

MISSION

1) To clearly establish, through rigorous scientific testing, the therapeutic and educational effects of all forms of role-playing gaming (tabletop, live-action, & computer-based) on participants. In addition to determining the potential relevance of correlated factors, significant emphasis is focused contributing to the body of causal research information.
