The general public has a variety of inculcated ideas about RPGs and RPGers.

The more common misconceptions include:

  • People who play violent role-playing games will be more violent.
  • Mostly only males play RPGs
  • Only kids & teenagers play RPGs
  • People who play RPGs have a higher risk of suicide.
  • Playing RPGs will turn players into occultists/satanists.
  • Only misfits with no social skills play D&D.
