Volunteer Assistant Game Master

An entry-to-mid-level position. The Volunteer Assistant Game Master (GM) Trainee will learn to help the primary GM run regular sessions with various participants, at various locations, and provide training, where necessary, to players on how to play the applicable role-playing game. Volunteer-level free training begins immediately.

We have several open volunteer positions for Assistant Game Masters.

Assists the Primary Game Master.

Typically the primary GM handles the main story, campaign, etc.

The assistant GM helps with:

  • Checking up on rules (while primary GM keeps the game play flowing)
  • Playing other NPCs when there is more than one NPC at a time.
  • Updating the battlemat (if used/needed).
  • Keeping track of PC sheets.
  • Help answer player questions.
  • Provides post-game observational info to primary GM.
  • Helps as "go-fer" if there isn't an RPG Facilitator or RPG Advocate available.
  • Helps keep an eye out for player discrepencies (accidental mistakes, cheating, etc.).


Currently need assistant GM's for:

  • Heroes of the Mist fundraiser show for RPG Research on, weekly, Sundays 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Need to be on physical premises (not remote for assistant GM). AD&D 1st Edition.
  • Spark Central Program, 2nd & 4th Fridays each month from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Need to be on physical premises (no remote positions for this program). Requires background check. D&D 5e, and/or AiMe, and/or Star Wars, and/or NTYE.
  • MDA Summer camp program (July). Need to be on physical premises. Requires background check. D&D 5e, LARP.
  • Other programs. Details vary.

Note that for some programs, if working with clients, a background check may be required.
