Role playing gaming can potentially provide greater catharsis

Assuming the Aristotelian belief in catharsis is true (there is some debate about the validity of catharsis in the psychology research world)...

"Ultimately role-playing games hold the potential to produce an even greater sense of catharsis than the plays and epic poems of Aristotle's time. While ancient festivals such as the City Dionysia features lengthy plays and performances that were spread out over the course of three days, role-playing story lines can take years to reach a climax." - (Sarah Lynne Bowman, The Functions of Role-Playing Games, p 74).
