RPG Research at Spocon 2013 - Gender-bias Questionnaire, Stage 2
Some of you may have been following the research under way related to my questionnaire on whether respondents experience gender bias from the gaming industry and/or community(ies). This particular study was triggered by my attending the Spring 2013 quarter attendance at Eastern Washington University of the PSYC-331 Psychology of Women course, and has grown from there.
Prior to use, the questionnaire underwent vetting by the professor of the course, and an experienced counselor, therapist, & MSW with over 30 years of experience.
This portion of the research is undergoing the following stages over the next 1 to 2 years:
- Stage 1 - Beginning in May 2012, involved gathering questionnaire respondent data by showing up at local hobby stores and gatherings in the greater Spokane area. This has included dozens of respondents, and is still ongoing as respondent data continues to be accrued and aggregated. Should be concluded by the end of 2013.
- Stage 2 - Has just been approved, and will include potentially hundreds of respondents at Spocon http://www.spocon.org
- Stage 3 - Is planned for attending other conventions in others parts of Washington state.
- Stage 4 - Is planned for attending events throughout the greater Northwest outside of Washington (Idaho, Oregon, and Montana).
- Stage 5 - Is planned for attending events throughout the United States
- Stage 6 - Is tentatively planned for attending events in Canada
- Stage 7 - Is tentatively planned for attending events internationally.
The abstract for the results from stages 1 and 2 has been accepted by the 2013 WyrdCon Companion Book http://wyrdcon.com/2011/academic-programs/ . The abstract was already accepted, and the completed research results and associated analysis paper must be completed and submitted by August 15th, where it will undergo peer review. If the final paper is accepted, my understanding is that it will then be published by December 15th.
