Research on experiences of Gender bias in the gaming Industry & COmmunity (since 2013):
:@RonTheRBDM The people behind She Kills Monsters was on Dragon Talk! http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/dd-and-theater-collide-she-kills-monsters
:i did my dissertation on the use of video games as an aid to emotional learning for people with ASD. RPG would also be an excellent cause and effect safe zone teachable area
:Religious intolerance.com has a appologeticly written debunking of all the crazy stuff that people were saying in the 80's and stuff it even shows what kind of crazy stuff these people were saying not relating to RPG's and its very revealing about how crazy those people were in those days.
:I just stumbled across a vid on Youtube this afternoon that implied that Magic Cards are full of evil symbols...surprised to find people that still feel this way...unfortunate
:Yeah that's what I'm saying people that say things like the cards are the devil also say things like watching your laundry in the wash machine will make you a sinner. Its nuts once you look at it.
:TBH if I end up in hell I get to keep DMing and listening to alice cooper.. Not much different to now lol.. I suspect the RPG circle of hell is either having enough DMs but you can never successfully schedule a game, or enough players and no one willing to DM
:TBH if I end up in hell I get to keep DMing and listening to alice cooper.. Not much different to now lol.. I suspect the RPG circle of hell is either having enough DMs but you can never successfully schedule a game, or enough players and no one willing to DM
:I had a very supportive family and friends... we played D&D, Marvel Super Heroes, Top Secret, and Star Frontiers when I was in middle school and high school.
:That hell thing is a whole different discussion, hell in the bible is literally separation from God and not the firey pit some guy wrote a book about back in the day.
:As a player from almost Day 1 of D&D I've seen all the crazy theories about gamers. I weathered it and am happy to see the resurgence of gaming. Still DMing, including streaming, in spite of being a female and *ahem* over the hill.
:This interview is perfectly timed...I just started a course on vampires and wizards as symbols in society...their research is going to be a great resource!
:I grew up in the south and played D&D during the Satanic Panic of the 80's. I remember sermons at church about the evil of D&D and how it was gateway to Satanic worship. Parents however were more understanding.
:im 33, known about DND for 20 odd years, never played. got into Critical Role, got my brother into CR and now we've recently formed a roleplay group in the back room of our local pub. wish I'd got into it at school.
:As an 80s kid my mum only really freaked out about the odd computer game, happily drove me to other adults places where i'd spend the weekend playing D&D.. great times.
:I'm freaking out! Thank you @dnd for having these guys on. There's a charity here in the UK that helps people with all levels of physical disabilities get back into gaming. And I've just shared that with RPG research. I'm so glad you've got these guys!
:@OboeCrazy That's it! My sister is too far away to take my niece to the concerts, but I love what they are doing with their autistic friendly concerts.
:My 10 year old son is autistic, I DM'd a game for him and his younger brother & sister, they loved it and now want a campaign. I'm thinking of using the starter set but thats the campaign we are running at the pub so I cant read the full campaign
:@Slit_518 TL;DR Hawke has been discussing how he uses RPG games to assist all kinds of people, whether they come out of a coma with some brain damage, or are autistic, or have physical limitations, etc. It's really really great, so I would encourage you to go back and catch the whole thing later!
:@Cybearian Pick up storm kings thunder, or out of the abyss.. Either runs well as a campaign and are the better ones.. (Curse of strahd is awesome as well but the other 2 I think would play great for kids)
:@MikeMN2KGod If it ever makes it into a printed book then it's got a good shot.. Or if they ever have a DMsGuild as a +1.. which I don't think will happen for a while.
:Interesting comment! In one of my groups I have a player who gets very upset at descriptions, wants just to battle. Maybe I need to bring in more senses. He might have that problem.
:@Slit_518 That isn't the biggest issue really, the biggest one would be the time for the admins to vet the content there too.. Sure they could treat it like CCC creation but I don't see it really happening
:He is more than that. Got very upset and apparently confused by a description of where doors were, etc. There were only visual clues in my description. I'll try inserting more senses.
:@Ralthan I have a kid friendly/beginner friendly module that I have made, but right now it is in the hands of a company for review, so as it stands, I am not sure if it is to be published or not yet.
:@Slit_518 As for being alone in creating content, if you're creating AL content, join the CCC creators group on facebook maybe? I'm in there for when I get around to start creating content.. as a con organizer always happy to run content as well
:When I was a little child, we still have radio, no TV. You -HAD- to develop imagination, picture things. Today people realyy have lost that ability and I think RPG should be required studies.
:@MtnMama1 Different times too, when I was a kid we had tv, but we got outside, played with figures etc.. Was still a ton of imagination involved.. Agreed it should basically be a course they take if only to teach the life and social skills they learn through it.
:@mewfantasy Try talking to your local library! Libraries tend to be pretty open about setting up after school programs like that...it brings people into the library!
:@SpaceJunkz Im one of the Elite Dangerous community ambassadors and Frontier Developments do a lot of fund raising for SE. Ive met Barry and some of the other folks at the charity.
:@Cybearian Ah! I might have met you at some point! LOVE BARRY! He's an amazing guy! Went to a few events with him that had the ED people there! My name is Georgina! But it was so long ago, if we met it might have been very briefly
:Great job representing the 509 John! Hope to see you on the gaming bus, with both of us living in the greater Spokane area. Or at least @ the Valley mall on Wednesday for gaming @ Uncle's games there. Woot! Woot!
